Teflon! Also you could weld a strip with mounting holes on the back so that the curved extension would fit flush. Last aerosol can of Teflon ( DuPont ) I got came from Northern Hydralics. Be sure to get the dry type.

Also the welding, although good idea, isn't worth it for me, it gets the job done and I'm happy :)
