Cub Plow with Canadian Bottom?

Postby Brandon Webb » Tue Nov 05, 2013 1:29 pm

Was thinking about going to the IH winter auction this weekend, noticed they had what they called a cub plow with a canadian bottom. I had never seen anything about these before and hadn't heard of one. Here's a link to the picture if it'll work:

We've got 2 of those. One is a 7 inch (Ace) and the other is an 8 inch (Rex). The moldboards are made in such a way as to only turn the sod over 1/2 or 3/4 depending on which one. The one in the picture appears to be the 8 inch "Rex" moldboard. They were supposedly used for certain types of soil that would become unworkable if the sod was completely turned over.

If you have pictures of your Rex and Ace bottom plows I would like to see them and any additional information would be great.

I have been waiting for this topic to come up for some time.I have an ace bottom plow here in Canada.
This type of plough is all I've ever worked with and does a excelent job in hard ground. The sod doesn't crumble
like further south so it is turned 3/4 over. Not really sure why but that's the way it is.
The ace set up is a molbourd with more of a twist in it compaired to the mid west type that is more like
a snowplow wing to turn sandy soil. The shear is called a point here as the cutting edge has less angle.
I have some pics and numbers somewhere i can share and maybe some other info.like your shears points are
not produced by IH or anyone else so a plow with a new point is valueable. By the way this is my first post. Rob

I also have a Cub 193 with and ACE shear/point and ACE Moldboard. Have been searching to find replacements for when mine are worn out. The ACE point/shear is marked "chilled" with Part# ACE 954 stamped into the casting. The Moldboard has well faded painted stenciling. ACE 10R7. Also see an IH # stamped into it as follows:SA6R14AH as far as I can tell. Have pics but unable to post them for some reason.

Interested in this subject as well.

Thanks
Jerry

Rudi has not been on much lately. He has had some health issues and some hospital time. He is home now and in recovery mode. He does check the forum from time to time. I'm sure he'll pipe in at some point.

I found this article a while back that has a picture of a cub with a scotch bottom.

http://www.tractormagazine.co.uk/news/s ... ws-in-athy

In doing some research about IH plows, I've found out something interesting. You can take a plow that takes a plow chief bottom and exchange it with a super chief bottom. The frogs are the same from 12" thru 20" and bolt up the same on the beam. But more interestingly a kneuverland frog will also bolt up to the IH beam, allowing the use of scotch plows. In fact some IH plows were offered with the kneuverland bottoms for use in Canada and ploughing competitions.

Gator 809
Thanks for the info. and the Irish connection. The question I have is does the I-H Ace bottom ,i.e. frog, bolt up to the Super Chief and Plow Chief beams?
Also I am looking for the old K-V plowshares pictures and any info. would be great. Still looking for a Rex bottom or plow.
Thanks
Steve
