Cylinder head, rusted valves

Postby Blackriver » Thu Dec 26, 2013 12:41 am

I pulled the head from my Farmall B and it has four stuck valves, they seem to be sticking in the guides. I plan to pull the springs and take out the valves this weekend and try to clean it up and inspect the damage. I have a set of new valves that my grandad bought before he died. Are the guides normally shot in this situation? If so, I guess it will take a machine shop to put new guides in, and grind new valve seats? Can anyone say what this job typically runs in $$$?

the sticking valves are likely caused by tar or rust in the guides. they probably will clean up or can be knurlized if they are loose by the machine shop. valve seats, particularly the exhaust, might need inserts installed as they typically won't clean up.
