Starting a new project 1960 Lowboy

Postby shultzie » Fri Dec 13, 2013 9:10 am

Hello. It's been a while since I've posted and I've taken on a project for a friend.
It's a 1960 Cub Lowboy with a sickle bar mounted on it.
I have a 1974 Intl. Cub so I'm somewhat familiar of them in general.
To give a brief history, my friend bought it several years ago and used to use it often. Lately it has been sitting outside and has some serious rust issues. He showed it to me a few years ago and asked me if I wanted to buy it and I declined as I thought it was too much work to get it running again.
Two winters ago he had someone at the local high school start on it and they rebuilt the engine and he has worked on some stuff so now it's in pieces and back inside. The person who started on it has quit on the project. It has sat in pieces for a couple of years. He can't get around good in the shop so I told him I would help.
I can post pictures later.

Thanks!
Kent

I've always hated finishing a project that someone else started. A couple of manuals and this forum and you should be ok.

Mighty nice of you to help him but it's probably going to be a long expensive project. There is no way to test engine, trans, finals without it together. Learn how to safely split the tractor because you may have to several times.

I worked on the radiator a little bit last night. Believe it or not I got all the bolts unscrewed. I feel much better about that.

Little update on the Cub.
Fenders and front axle are blasted and primed. Hopefully I can get the hood/gas tank primed soon.
Can anyone tell me what grade bolts to use to bolt on the radiator? I don't think I'm gonna use the original ones.
Thanks.

Shultzie,

It appears the finder furthest away is a different size than the one closest. Is that so?

Jackf,
They are the same fender size. One is just about 10 feet further away.

Cleaned up the radiator bolster today, and should be ready for primer tomorrow. Need to get on that hood/gas tank.
Maybe I'll be sprayin' red on the week end. :{_}:

I got some more done on the Cub.
Sprayed some red today! :{_}: I wanted to spray the hood/tank today too, but I need to do some more prep work. I don't want to rush something that important and screw it up.

Looks great so far! Keep those pix coming.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.
