Oldest Operating Cotton Gin in America

Postby tmays » Tue Nov 19, 2013 7:59 pm

Located at the Ag Museum in Jackson, MS. It was moved up from Natchez, MS. This display is part of a replica small town set up complete with a Main Street. Most of the houses and outbuildings are actual buildings donated from around MS. I highly reccomend a visit for the Harvest Festival here if you are ever in the area. It's usually the first weekend in November

Yep I figured you'd take notice Harold and you got the year right too! :-)

I go every year at this time. A few people bring tractors and hit and miss engines. Even had someone cooking cracklins the old fashion way this year. There's a blacksmith shop and you can watch them operate, although blacksmithin is mostly decorative nowadays. Several people bring antique cars and they're usually really nice ones. They make cane syrup using the old Timey press powered by tractor driven belt. Sometimes they run the sawmill. It's a really nice setup overall. Takes you back in time for a little while
