Grampa Al

Postby Shotgun_13601 » Fri Nov 01, 2013 5:57 pm

Perhaps some of you noticed the pictures of Grampa Al's snowblower set up, well here is some bad news. On Tuesday, Al slipped on some wet leaves on his way out to his shop and fell. After offering some invective laced advice to the god's of wet leaves he was back in action and took care of his project list for the rest of the day. The next morning he was experiencing a great deal of discomfort and went to River Hospital to get checked out.

He was examined, scans were taken and he was immediately strapped to a board and transported by ambulance to SUNY upstate medical center trauma center in Syracuse. It appears the Grampa has BROKEN HIS NECK. Apparently 2 more millimeters would have severed his spinal cord.

Due to his age (80) and underlying health conditions it was determined that he would not survive a surgical repair. He is now home with an immobilization apparatus and he has been informed that he can't attempt to move his head for at least 3 months. Right now he needs all of our prayers and well wishes

I know he will be going crazy so if any of his brother cubbers would like to drop a dime on him his telephone number is (315)658-2681 .

He's a tough old bird. Should do fine, IF you can get him to follow orders. Keeping him down, won't be easy.

Wow poor Al, he is a great guy and I have enjoyed chatting with him even, if he lets you tag along. Seriously, it's going to be tough for Al to lay low I am sure he will be well taken care of. My thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Grandpa Al has my prayers. I know what it would be like if I was restricted to doing nothing for 3 months. My wife would leave home.

Send along my wishes for a "tolerable" recovery. I imagine he's in a halo rig and that's got to be a pain to wear and sleep in.

I am confident that Grampa Al will recover fine, although some of the family members may be a little worse for wear. :) He is a tough ole bugger. Prayer has been lifted up.

Andrew, tell him to do as the docs say. I asked him to bring the mower attachment next year and let him know I expect him to show up. Pris and I wish him a speedy and full recovery.
