Looking At An Economy Power King Tractor

I went to look at an Economy Tractor yesterday evening. The tractor has a snow blower, rot tiller, dozer blade and a mower deck in poor/unusable shape. The tractor is in pretty good shape, not great but everything looks fixable. The owner said it ran but couldn't get it started however it did run while shooting starting fluid in the intake. I'm sure that is an fuel delivery issue. The PK has dual transmissions and Cub rear wheels and wheel weights. I offered them about half what they were asking and they nearly met my offer. I just couldn't pull the trigger. I'm not sure if I need another project but I always thought they were pretty cool little tractors. It would be a fun project to fabricate a front end loader for it thought.....






Any thoughts or experience with these little tractors?

Go for it Ricky, those are great tractors, just beautiful in their simplicity, and what was done to keep costs down, but top quality, rugged, no-frills machine. Don't hold back- buy it !

You will be amazed at how much you can pull(dead tractors for an example)with one cylinder and all those gears. Cubs are still my favorite,but I did own an Economy for a while,and was impressed with it.

Ricky, if you are on the fence about it but comfortable with your offer, if it is meant to be they'll be giving you a call to accept it. But if you fall off on their side of the fence............congrats, and fun with it.

I have a 16-14 and it is very well built, I only have a front blade for it. Mine came from Lowell Ohio , I hope to get more implements for it . Buy it you can't have too many tractors.

In the 60's a guy down the road from us was a dealer for the Power King/Economy tractors! I have driven/used them,--never got to own one, but would grab one without a second thought if offered a deal that close pricewise ---so you take it from there!---great little tractors! LOL!!! thanks; sonny

I want to get it but I'm Cub poor right. So here is what might happen. A friend that I work with comes to me last week and said he was looking for something like a Cub for cultivating his garden. Hmmmmm, who do I know that has an extra Cub with cultivators. I may have to sacrifice a Cub that I currently own to get the Economy. I hate to get rid of this last Cub I purchased, it's a real cream puff, but I really have a hard time trying to justify keeping it. (Did I really say that???) If I get the Economy, I'd like to fabricate a front end loader for it. It would be a handy little addition to the homestead.....

Ricky, I bought a Power King last year because it had an almost new set of tires on the rear that would fit my cub that I was restoring at the time. My idea was to buy the Power King put it's tires and wheel on the cub and then sell the PK. Well I put a set of turf tires I got from Boss on the PK and then worked with the PK and got it running. Well I liked the PK so much I decided to keep it. It now earns it's keep pulling a trailer around. Fun little machine with a lot of power for one cylinder.
About the biggest problem with the PK is that little 3 speed BT-92 transmission. They are bad about wearing the shifting lever knob and getting stuck in 2 gears. There is a fix on the web to build up the shift knob. However once you get use to it's shifting habits it becomes easy to handle without sticking it in 2 gears.
I think you would enjoy it.
