Hey Cal, that looks like it'll be a beauty when you're done. Keep the pictures coming so we can watch your progress.

Great pics! I love it when the "younger generation" gets involved in a restoration like this one! (can't believe that I am saying "younger generation" now... Help...I'm turning into my parents!)

You have a great start going on this assembly!

Thanks for the kind comments. Today I put the generator, voltage regulator and distributor in place, I think I got the static timing correct. Painted a few more parts, takes more time to clean the gun then to paint the parts!

I bought the Cub around thirteen years ago, the grandson was about three, now he is sixteen. I started taking it apart back then, had the engine machine work done, bored oversize, crank ground, etc. The shop supplied all the new engine parts and I assembled the engine. The the tractor has all new gaskets and seals.

Then life got in the way and I haven't touched it in years. Now the wife and I decided to downsize and we bought a ranch styled house in the city, no stairs!
We have it rented out, but plan on selling the country home and move back to Dover, NH next year. Now I'm under the gun to get the Cub put back together and sold.

After all that great work, why sell it? People in the city own Cubs too.

One step backward today, I filled the cooling with antifreeze and had a leak at the gasket at the top goose neck. Drained the antifreeze and took the connection apart and sealed it with some gasket goo. Will try refilling it tomorrow.

Rob, maybe in a couple of weeks. The remaining big projects are the hood and fenders. If the weather changes for the worse, then it may be spring before I get them on . I hope to have the engine running with a temporary gas tank soon.

Cal:

looks like you and your grandson are having a lot of fun putting the Cub back together. And that is really what it is all about... quality time with the youngun's and them learnin from the older ones.

I am pretty sure that there are lot's of Cubber's who live in the cities so .. moving to the city doesn't mean a whole lot. Besides, your grandson would probably want to play with it some more or maybe someday become the keeper of Grandpa's Cub.

Update, Rudi and Barnyard, I never had a plan for keeping the Cub, bought it more for the fun of rebuilding it and getting my hands greasy!

Sunday the grandson came over and we put a few more parts on it. I showed him how to gap the plugs, we looked up the torque specs so he installed them. I ha d bought a wiring kit form Brillmans along with new plug wires. Showed him the timing order and where number one wire went on the distributor, he finished
that. Then he installed the voltage regulator. The last thing we did was pour the gear lube into the rear axle housing. Capacity specs said 1 3/4 pints but they took the whole quart each.

I have been working on the hood. Trying to lay a good coat of paint on smooth metal is harder then spraying rough cast iron. Will take a lot of wet sanding.

Oh well, Cal

The paint looks GREAT. This is my first post. I have just started with my Cub and had not even thought about the paint yet but after seeing yours, I can't wait to get to that stage. What paint did you use?
