original equipment?

Can you guys tell me what this piece is that was mounted on the back of my 55 cub?
If its aftermarket or from a implement I probabally will just leave it off....
Just wonder if it needs sandblasting and paint

latch gate for a 189 plow set up. it is for the left and right hand plow set up
