An update from my post back in February: I posted that it was a little slow to darken the first use each time I got it out. after using it a few times, it no longer exhibits that problem. I have never taken one apart, but I suspect it has some rechargeable cells in it that are charged by the light from the arc. The earlier auto helmets had some button batteries that had to be replaced occasionally, but the newer ones apparently do not.

I have an old Harbor Freight might be 8 yrs or so still works well just used it a couple of days ago with my Mig welder,May have to upgrade to a new one next time we go to big City.

My HF helmet was acting sluggish. I put it in the sun for an afternoon with the solar panel up and it apparently charged it up and cured it.
