Platform Carrier/ update pics

Postby clodhopper » Sat Oct 05, 2013 5:27 pm

I finished building the platform carrier today (Mcormick No.1?) for Betty Lou. I havent painted it or stained the wood yet. As soon as the kids saw it, they HAD to have a ride, so I mounted her up and off we went. Hope to get it all painted/stained next week.

I have a fast hitch carrier for Princess '55. I'm curious how you supported the vertical wood as high as you did. My metal supports at the fast hitch don't go up that high. Would you be able to post a photo of the super-structure behind the wood?

:Dito: On the smile saying it all...Hope she enjoyed the ride.

Regards, Ken

Ken, my guess is he cut his angle iron back supports longer than the factory lifts were. They would be strong enough to support the higher back boards.

Ken,
This is the plan I used, so here you go!

http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Sketch ... index.html

EDIT: The fast hitch version has a lower back because of the connection point, and it was designed to sit on the ground loaded so you could back up to it, hitch and go. You could not do that with the non-fast hitch version IIRC

So I took the platform apart after church to get it ready for paint, and figured I would post more pics. My son and I started staining the boards, then I left it to him to finish. My daughter decided today was a Nanna and Papa day, so she went home with them, or she would have been right out there too!

EDIT- I thought you might like the story behind this. My neighbor (just retired from National Guard, CWO5 ;pilot) Is a "keep everything" kinda guy like me. He asked me if I would plow a ditch for him when I got the 193 mounted back up. I said sure...can I use your welder to build my platform carrier, mine is too light duty for the job. He said sure, plus Ill give you the metal to build it. Long story short, I have $30 in wood, bolts, and clevis pins. the rest was free. I love it when a plan comes together!

Great looking platform! Looks like it was a lot of fun to put together too.
