If I paint the steering column before assembly should I expect that installing the lower seal keeper will damage the paint? Is it possible to oil he seal and slide the assembly over the paint, without causing damage?

Re: Assembly Question
Ken we're looking forward to it. Been remodeling the downstairs bathroom this week. Tile on the floor, new toilet, and converting an antique dry sink into a vanity with a vessel sink. On top of that making molding for the kitchen and the bath. I need a break.

Make sure the vent hole in the filler cap is open or the oil will leak out the seal, new or not.
