If I Had a Million Dollars
If I Had a Million Dollars .. a popular tune by our own Bare Naked Ladies ..
but also a kind of tongue in cheek wish. As many who know me, know that I really am a Heavy Chevy nut --- but more on the lines of Ransom E Olds seeing as he created two of my favourite brands in the auto world - Oldsmobile and REO. They would also know that my favourite all time Olds would have to be the '69 Olds Cutlass S but most specifically the 442 and it's variants. Rag tops being numero uno.
Was doodling around the other day and poof .. something popped up that If I Had a Million Dollars .. both of em would be in my driveway and under cover PDQ!
1969 Olds 442 Survivor
Nice to see a '69 as an original ... wow This particular one is almost identical to the one my Dad had (minus the vinyl roof) and the one I did my road test in way back in '72. My twin ended up with that one... long story to it's history.
The 1st one I owned was a customized rag top I bought in New Westminster BC in late '72. Kept if until I was posted to CFS Inuvik in '76. Sold it to a younger than me person who promptly buried it into the side of a GreyLines Bus Since that time I have owned a few more of them but none as good as my 1st.
The other one I really like is this one. 1969 Hurst Olds
When I think about owning a muscle car again or a hot rod to satisfy my mid life crises such as they are ... I usually just shake it off and realized that it would be only a pipe dream as nothing really grabs me as it did when I was in my 20's. Except ... when I see stuff like this. These get my heart racing. Goats are nice, T-Birds are nice, FireBirds and TransAm's .. okey dokey .. but a 442 Yup, that'll do it every time.
Oh to be young again.

Re: If I Had a Million Dollars
I hear you buddy, but for me it would be a 69 Mustang Mach 1. Worst mistake I ever made was trading it in.
Then again after driving my daughters 2012 Mustang GT, I'm not sure, but "if I had a million dollars" why not a 69 and 2014.

John and Sheri Ratliff did a great job singing this song at the Tug this year.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: If I Had a Million Dollars
Rudi, Does it have to be a 442? My driving record in 72 was so bad I could not afford the insurance on a car with a real engine so I bought a Cutlass with a 350 and a stinking little 2bbl. I now have just over 67,000 miles on it.

Re: If I Had a Million Dollars
I'm a tractor guy, not a car guy. That said, if money was no object, I would like to have a 1985 Chevy Scottsdale, 2wd, long bed, regular cab, rally wheels, Apple Red with burgundy custom interior. 305 under the hood with a 3.08 rear end, automatic transmission with overdrive. Stick a brake controller in it and mount a Reese hitch under the step bumper and let's go to a tractor show.
My dad bought one new in 1984 and we wore it out.
Now tractor-wise. First a 1947 Super A, (they only made 81 of them) an IH 1066, IH 7288, and a late model Massey Ferguson 300 combine with both heads. Then, fix the rest of my "junk" so you don't have to worry about getting tetanus when you walk by them!

Vern:
Any of the Cutlass A-frames would do. I like them a lot until they went to that new style in 73 I think it was. Didn't like that at all. That '72 of yours looks pretty spiffy. Oh yeah, a Rocket 350 ain't nothin to sniff at .. got some go juice they do right out of the box
In 81 Em and I bought a 2 year old '79 Cutlass Supreme 2 door. Nice car. We went all over Germany, Austria and parts of France with it.
But seriously, on the original not in which I posted this thread .. We all know that ifn we had extra coin it goes on a new to us Cub .. exactly as I did this summer when I jumped on that '68 Lo-Boy. But ... ifn I had a million dollars just hanging around .. then I could afford to get me a playtoy like the 442 and yes I would get it no doubt about it .. along with a couple other toys.
In the meantime, I will just keep savin me pennies (not that we have them anymore in Canada ) and get another Cub

When I hit the $400 million plus power ball tonight. Kinda like Boss Hog, charity donations big time. That stuff is great to look at, at shows.
Will ask the wife for a bigger allowance. Probably won't get it.
