When did it all start and by whom

Postby ArtN » Wed Aug 14, 2013 6:13 pm

I was looking over this site the other night and how it has grown in the short period I have been a cub owner and got to thinking a story of the history of this Forum would be great. So ytou old timers who started it, when and a little history of how it grew over time.

Art, here is a link explaining a bit about Dennis, the founder of this site, taken from the home page of this website. http://www.farmallcub.com/dcms/about
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

That all would make sense, 1998 about the time the internet started proving usefull and easy and that he is (or was) an IT Manger. So how did it grow from there?

That was a good read in the link. I sit out on my steps and look at my Cub setting there, what a joy just looking at it. I'll walk over to it on a daily basis and start it up for no good reason other than to hear it run. I'm hooked.

It's a bit chilly this evening so I think I'll go throw another blanket on the Cub...I mean the baby. Yeah, the baby.

I guess one of the old timers though I didn't post much at all the first several years. I think I actually started "lurking" on this site in 2000 maybe...I don't remember, but didn't register until 2003. I don't remember much though about the "early years"

I can tell you after more than a dozen years of being a member of tractor boards of all sizes and colors this one is the best...hands down. I've learned a wealth of information here over the years, and most of it not by asking questions, but by just reading and searching the information that is already available. My hats off to Dennis for having the knowledge and vision to create this great asset for all IH enthusiasts. Well done Dennis!

Okay Dusti.....yeah I am a big history buff and I remember I (think) in about 2009 folks on this site offered a lot of help to a middle age man who had forgotten most of what he knew 35 years earlier. And that was me. I have not been on a lot since then but primarly it is because I don't feel qualified to give an answer. It took me a year and half to figure out the wiring. Lot of good folks on here!

Before joining here, I've lurked other sites as well. In my opinion this site is supreme because it's so well moderated and the members are respectful of forum rules and other members (for the most part). The founder (Dennis) had the vision and laid the foundation for this site to achieve the success its achieved.

Hats off to Dennis, the moderators and our contributing members.

ArtN wrote:So how did it grow from there?

Suffice to say that it grew because of who became members and contributed to this community. It is after all the individual members who have made this the greatest site on the net. If you check the Joined Date: that should give you a rough idea of the progression.

Do remember that this iteration of FarmallCub.com is the 3rd IIRC. The old bulletin board BBS style is the first one I belonged to way back in '99 or early 2000 .. I forget now. We moved over to the newer style format sometime in '02 I think but we had a humongous board crash and it was rebuilt in early '03. You can track it now from that point forward.

We have lost some of our members though like Albie, George, Dan, Pete and a few others that we may not know of and their contributions will never be forgotten.

Thanks for the reply Rudi and all, yes I see and I have been doing some research on it this morning. I do know that without this site I don't know that I would have completed putting my cub back together. My Bro and My wife would have been correct and I would still be listening to them Yak. What really impressed me was the amount of resources available without even asking the question as someone has been there and done that before. Kinda one stop shopping, read all the possibilities in one message.

Art, mark your calendar for February 14th - 15th, 2014. There is a great Cubfest in Sneads Florida that you won't want to miss.
