Cub LoBoy loosing hyraulic oil
I have an old red Cub Loboy with the red rounded tanks. I think maybe its around a 1959 or so. It has a fast hitch on it. I am beginning to have a problem with the hydraulic oil disappearing somewhere and then I can't lift up the mower deck I have mounted in the middle. I don't see where its leaking outside the tractor or the hydraulic block in the center of the tractor. Could it be leaking into the engine oil through seals in the pump? The engine oil seems to be increasing? What do I need to do to fix this?

Check your engine oil, could be a pump seal. Ed

Re: Cub LoBoy loosing hyraulic oil
Ed has identified the problem. The solution is a pump rebuild kit <$30. Did one for a neighbor last Wednesday. A bit of quality time at the workbench. Here is a How To:

Re: Cub LoBoy loosing hyraulic oil
Ok, simple looking enough. Does the local IH dealer usually carry these rebuild kits or is there a better place to get them?

The kit is available from CaseIH or TM Tractor Parts.

Re: Cub LoBoy loosing hyraulic oil
I checked with my Case/IH tractor dealer this morning and they don't sell a parts kit to rebuild the pump. I have to purchase each seal and gasket separately and they don't have most of them in stock. Or I could buy a new pump for $600. So I think I will try ordering a kit from TM tractor parts.

I'd call your dealer back and ask for CaseIH part number 355208R91 and see what they say. I think you are being stonewalled because they don't want to be bothered to look up a part number. If you don't get satisfaction, definitely deal with TM.

Re: Cub LoBoy loosing hyraulic oil
So, now that parts for these ancient tractors are becoming unobtainable at reasonable prices (I don't think the tractor is worth the $600 for a new hydraulic pump), should I just dump this old wreckage down in the ditch behind the barn and go buy that new zero-turn mower that my wife keeps pushing me to buy?

If you decide to dump it in the ditch, call me.
Parts are still available. But, sometimes the counter person you talk to is lazy.

If you want really good service, deal with TM. They've spoiled me, and I expect that kind of service, wherever I do business. (Doesn't happen!) Ed

I think that is the number I saw him write down on a pad of paper as we were discussing it at the counter. Maybe I need to look for another dealer. But IH dealers are getting harder to find here in Mid-Missouri. So, I went ahead and ordered the kit from TM. I have never bought parts from them before. How long does it usually take to get parts from TM and do they usually have stuff in stock? If its going to be a long wait we have several acres of grass my wife likes to keep mowed and the only back up mower I have is a 21" push mower. She might get mad and go buy that zero-turn mower she wants.

You won't be disappointed with TM. They will have the kit in stock and you should have it very quickly. They are excellent to deal with.

Re: Cub LoBoy loosing hyraulic oil
I don't even bother with Case/IH or Auto Parts stores anymore....Speaking for myself, it ain't worth the hassle ....Not only do they balk at waiting on you, most of them don't know Jack Much easier to deal with the internet and TM etc....PS I bought my wife a used Craftsman 26 HP 48 inch deck for 500.00...Worth every penny...
