Majic Paint from Tractor Supply

Postby pickerandsinger » Thu Jul 25, 2013 4:37 am

My Cubs are both working tractors, and I keep them up as well as possible....Recently I picked up a few cans of majic IH red at tractor supply to touch them up a bit while I am working on both of them (long story).....For my amateurish splattering of the paint covering up some previous scars etc, I got to wondering....Just what is it about this paint that everyone seems so down on....Its 5.49 a can and seems to look ok to me....So what is it that yawl don't like about it....I also painted a C2 with the majic IH white...Seems to hold up rather well....Would you care to share  Dave

Dave, here are a few of the many threads that covered the subject before. You might find many reasons there. If you enter Majic in the search box you will find a lot more comments.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

i've only used it for some small pieces so i can't give much of a review. my biggest gripe is that it takes so long to dry. i used it and 12 hrs later its still tacky and also spilled a small amount of gas on it and it lifted right away, didnt even have a chance to wipe it. i would never recomend that paint to use on anything.

With paint like many things - you get what you pay for.
IMHO, if I'm just touching up and not using that much paint why not use Iron Guard IH 2150 Red?

I'm glad someone else started a paint thread besides me for a change - I learned my lesson...... :big crazy:

To add to what Rob says, the CaseIH stuff 'cures' really quickly.... but if you just want paint on something 1/2 the price is a bargain.

I bought a couple cans of it over the weekend to paint a few un-painted things on this new '49, and do a little touch up. This tractor was painted with mixed, Sherwin Williams Acrylic Enamel, and I love the color of it...the deep red that I like, more like the IH 50, don't have the orange tint I see in IH2150...

Anyway...having said that...I don't like this majic stuff. It did seem to cover well, I don't like the can, the nozzle or the color for that matter. It's slow to dry and doesn't look nearly as good as the old Valspar Restoration Series Paint. I'd gladly pay 8.00 a can for that stuff if I could still find it. I've got two spray cans and about half a gallon of Restoration Paint left on my shelf...saving it for hard times :)

Thanks Denny, but I prefer 'fiscally responsible'.... Everything except the white stuff on Rufus is IronGard, I shudder to think what I have invested in paint. Being cheap on the other hand could be why I didn't paint the 77, the newest member of the 'flock'.

Heck no matter what anyone uses, it looks good from here. It's your Cub!

If I ever find my number stencils, I will use that Valspar yeller to paint my address on the garbage cans.

That stuff is really bad paint. In fact buy all the cans you can find around there and send them to me. Ill store it all in my shop until they quit making it. J/k, ive used it on a bunch of stuff and as long as I dont touch it until it has cured, it seems to be pretty durable.
Tractors are like watermelons: the RED is good and you throw away the GREEN.

I'll put in my two pennies... I have sprayed Majic paint with the added reducer and hardener. I redid my finals and tranny over the winter and that's what I painted them with. So far I have had no problems. Having said that, since the rattle cans have no hardener, that could be the issue with this paint. I have also read or heard this company is striving to be the ”greenest ” paint company out there.....so I will let you draw your own conclusions from that.
