Dad had run thousands of board feet of lumber thru the sawmill using it.

Those pics get me excited. I bought the Cub with the intention of harvesting my own house logs and I'm getting steps closer by the day. I've got the tractor, the mill, secured the rights to cut some spruce logs and now I have the arch. As soon as I can get the Cub in fighting trim I'll be off to the woods. Good stuff.

Wow, I can't believe you can skid that log and the front end stays down.....You must have it figured out so its just a fraction off the ground and a well thought out skid row....Nice....Dave

If you think 6-8 inches is a fraction.

Dave:

Skidding logs with a Cub is not exactly the safest thing to do. The Cub can and probably will rear up on it's hind feet and could roll over on the operator if they are not careful. I have skidded fir, spruce, birch and maple with Ellie but I can tell you, even taking a lot of care, the pucker factor is alive and kicking  When skidding, the log has to be as low to the ground as possible and should be about the height of the draw bar. The chains etc., should be hooked up to the draw bar and not any higher. Takes practice and forethought to skid safely with a Cub.

Dave has a pretty good grasp on this. His winch setup keeps the log very low. I really like how the winch base is anchored to the draw bar.

Front wheel weights, more that just a pair, is pretty helpful with anything mounted on the fast hitch to keep the front end down. Probably a good idea if you are skidding logs too.
