Something stronger

Postby DanR » Sun Jul 14, 2013 6:46 am

I'm trying to clean the underside of the hood on my truck prior to repainting. There is no grease or oil just dirt. Just 25years of dirt. I have used purple power with Dawn twice with a pressure washer. Some dirt comes off but the older stuff just stays there. There is good white paint down there if I can get to it. Suggestions?

Is the hood off? If so could you turn it upside down and soak it down with the Purple Power and just let it soak for a while then use a stiff bristle brush to scrub it clean?

Unfortunately the hood is still on the truck. First time Purple Power has let me down. Thanks

Oven cleaner will take the paint off. Not a good idea...

I have used this for at least the last 20 years, it has never taken off any paint aside from that which was already loose and coming off.

Since he hasn't removed the hood, Dan will need to be careful of what he uses since it may drip onto the engine and depending on what it may land on, either chrome, aluminum or plastic, the wrong solvent may cause damage to the finish or component.

Greased Lightning. Anything with sodium metasilacate , but be very careful what you get it on. It will burn paint and dull aluminum.

Find someone with a power washer that has the heated water or a steam cleaner
