Sweet potato slips
Anyone ever hear of planting sweet potato slips in clay soil to amend it to humus...Or is it an internet blooper....The internet says planting them in clay soil will change the soil to humus in a year....Sounds fishy to me....Dave

Re: Sweet potato slips
Blooper or worse. Clay is a mineral soil, humus is organic. Adding humus to clay by plowing under cover crops however is good for any soil. Vern

Re: Sweet potato slips
I can't imagine the sweet potato plants producing enough organic matter, to make a difference. Compost, leaves, hay or straw, and cover crops, would do it. No single crop, will fix it. Ed
Anyone know of a summer cover crop, that won't attract deer? Everything I thought of, is on the "deer feed plot"list. I used to plant buckwheat, but it's priced, out of sight! $85.00, for 50 pounds!

Thanks VW...I thought it sounded fishy (not the kind you plant with corn, pilgrim) lol.....Ed, I'll be researching a good cover crop...If I find a good one that don't attract deer (my neighbor has 600 acres of apples) to attract them, ha ha....I'll let you know....Dave
