?? Brackets ??

Postby Smokeycub » Sat Jun 29, 2013 12:48 pm

Hello all - Just a question about brackets that came with a 184 my friend bought. The tractor has a 59" Woods belly mower (59CL-4 I believe) and a three point hitch. The brackets in question appear to be for a mower but the cross member for the mule drive has the brackets for the mower on it and these seem to be extra and not the same at all. It doesn't appear they'd line up correctly for the deck if bolted to finals. So maybe they're not for the Woods deck at all. Does anyone know what they are or are for? Any ideas?
They almost look like the are for an F-Cub touch control rock shaft. (Which the 184 does not have)

There are two of these, the other one has an off set but otherwise identical.

The P/O had to jury rig a few things to get the three point to fit.

They are brackets for the 3pt hitch, they would be where the yellow part is that the PO installed. I don't know what is on it now, whether that piece is a Woods part or not. There should be a 3pt manual here that will show how they attach.

Yep - that's exactly what they are. I found a couple really crappy pictures on page 22 and page 19 of the 184 Owners Manual. I was looking through all the mower options for Low Boys and numbered Cubs and kept coming up blank. Those small yellow plates in the picture I posted are fish plated?? bolted to the mule drive are obviously add on and replace these two brackets for the three point. The old brackets would never work with the mower deck on the tractor. One place wants $135 for a set of them, holy crap! Thanks for the help! :D Now I know.

Ray:

Unfortunately that is the only manual for a 184 that I have and yeah, it is none too good.

Since I don't have a Numbered Series, those manuals are real low on my need to acquire list. This one is a perfect example of the less than acceptable manuals that some of these after-markets produce. I do not buy these at all ... and if I spend money on a reproduction, it will only be a Binder Books repro. Licensed means access to really good originals to reproduce from. Most reproductions though simply because they are reproductions and usually from later editions lack clarity in the illustrations and this is the nature of the beast.

If I can come across a nice IH one that is affordable I will do what I can to add it to the resources.

They yellow parts bolted to the mule drive could possible be parts offered by Woods to retain the use of the 3pt. They aren't a home fab job, those holes appear to be pressed by looking at the bigger image. Unless the PO had a fab shop make them. Either way the whole mule drive and mower mounts look plenty stout and well made.

I agree, they were recently installed and the fit isn't the best. The PO had to use washers to space the add on brackets away from the mule drive to line up, you can see the washers on the right side of the mule drive. He probably had to do that to accommodate the aftermarket lift bars, which are wider than the original and too long as well.

Agreed. Woods made(makes) some good quality products.
