IH-1000 loader hyd problems

Postby cjpenny89 » Tue Jun 11, 2013 9:42 pm

We just installed a Ih-1000 loader on my dads Super A. It works ok but the pump is getting hot hot you can"t touch it and you can smell it and it got hot enough to burn the grease and grim off.
the loader is hooked up the same as the one on my Farmall 100 but this one used to be on a farmall Cub. Could the bypass block have the wrong gasket on it do I need gaskets specific for the Farmall Super A? I am guessing dad may have used one of the farmall cub gaskets. Could this cause it to get hot?
Thanks
Chad

When you say it works OK, do you mean both the loader and the Touch-Control arms?

Jim
yes the touch control arms move back and forth and the loader will work ok for a few minutes before the pump gets hot. The one thing I noticed is that the front bucket wont lift with me standing on it and I weigh about 240lbs.
The bucket on my 100 will lift me.
I am sure we had a universal by-pass block and dad tells me he just used the one gasket that matched up to the bypass block and that one went between the tractor and the bypass. the other gasket he used was the one that was on the Super A lines.
Is it possible the filter in the touch control is bad causing low flow and is heating it up? I know it is circulating hyd fluid becasue all lines are getting hot just like the pump. I just do not want to burn up the pump. My first guess is the pump is not g etting enough fluid to cool it? or is there a restriction causing it to get hot? where should I start?

IIRC, the gasket between the by-pass block and tractor is not the one used for a Cub. When I switched my loader from a Cub to a 140, I talked to Tom at TM and he had one in stock. He doesn't list them any longer but still had a couple in stock last winter. Give him a call.

If the Touch Control screen were the problem, you'd have had the same hot pump issue before you installed the loader.

It's getting hot and acting weak because the oil flow is being killed somewhere. Don't run it anymore.

Check the gasket first.

Even if it's the Cub gasket it will line up with some of the holes on the bypass block... Because the bypass block fits the Cub too.

If it's the gasket it should be glaringly obvious as soon as you get the bolts out.

Ok here is an update. I took the hyd bypass block off and you could see where a few of the holes didn't seem to line up on the gasket to the tractor so I cut the gasket out to line up the holes. It still didn't work the pump still got hot and has no power to lift other then to lift itself no wieght.
Do you suppose that the not only does the gasket not line up but do you suppose that the hyd bypass block is not drilled right? I put this on a Super A. when I installed one on my farmall 100 it went well but if I think about it they have slightly different touch control units.
do you suppose my bypass block isn't lining up with the tractor causing the pump to work to hard?
Thanks
Chad

Are you sure you have the bypass block installed correctly, like, not flipped over?

The touch control units may be slightly different but they have got to be the same where it counts, where the bypass block fits.

Does the bypass block you took off your Cub look like this?

Image

This is the dual-purpose one sold by IH that fits the Cub, Super A, 100, 130, 140, C, Super C, 200, and some 230's.

I don't think you can get it wrong, which means something is caught somewhere inside the Touch Control blocking the hydraulic flow. Probably some piece of crud or a chunk of gasket that got "popped" loose by pressure.

Took the bypass block off my Farmall 100 put it on the Super A it didn't seem to get hot and had good movement in the loader and could lift me standing on it. I am sure the bypass is the problem. But I am now inned of a pump it is filling the crank case full of hydraulic oil I am sure I blew the seals when it got hot.
Problem is I can not find any of the hyd bypass blocks on ebay any more. I was really hoping to find the one I put on my 100 from ebay.
I think my bypass was home made the angle portion of it is all rough cut. and the 2 of the holes cover half the holes in the touch control.
At least I found my problem.

There is a guy on Ebay that sells a purpose-built bypass block for the Super A series tractors. Cheaper than the IH one.

I don't think TM sells them anymore. The picture I got above is off TM's website but I got it through google. I knew they sold them but I couldn't find it.

I bought a bypass block from the guy on ebay for my SA. Very well made, comes with gaskets and instructions. Works great for my rear remote.

Yeah I have one from ebay on my farmall 100 and it is great can't find the guy on there anyomore. I could not find any on ebay for that matter.
I took it to the shop at my work and the millwright helped me there was one hole way off and I think that is what the problem is. I hope to have it back installed on the tractor along with the new pump seals on the hydrualic pump.
I will let you know what I find out!

Yeah, dangit. Right after I posted that I went and checked... He doesn't have any for sale right now... I swore I saw them not that long ago though.

I've got one of each from him. Haven't had a chance to use the Cub block yet.

well hooked everything up and it still gets hot I am getting frustrated! Today I think if I can get over to dads I plan on pulling the bypass off and hooking up the hydraulics back to factory and see if the pump gets hot. then if it doesn't I will hook up the bypass and just run a loop with out the loader hooked up. If it doesn't get hot then I know its something else. Could it be that the valve spool has the open center plugged or restricted? I do know that the loader runs up and down prety good and gets worse as the pump gets tohot to touch.
I als oknow that the main boom wont lift me 240lbs it might get me 2' off the ground once then not again. I do see that when I pull handle to lift the spool pops out the adjustment screw on the front of the valve spool could this be the problem with lift? I have it adjusted so it lifts at a good speed and goes down smooth with out smashing the ground. As far as lift pressure could this be tied to my pump getting hot? any suggestions on what to check? It seems like I am getting fluid pumping everywhere all lines get hot also even the low pressure line that returns to the touch control. It seemed like the valve spool get super hot also. If its the open center problem how can I fix that? any suggestions would be great it is getting to the poing where my wife is agravated I am spending so much time helping my dad and not with my own wife and kids! I just want to beat this thing and see it work right!
Thanks guys
