There is a standpipe in the fan housing. Rotate the fan until you can get oil in the hole, then rotate it to the bottom. The oil will drain out to the correct level.

Re: Oil in fan housing
Remove screw on oil filler hole, fill to the top w/ oil, then rotate oil fill hole till it is on the bottom and let excess oil drain out as Ken said. Then replace screw and you're done. Fill with the same oil that you use in the engine crankcase.

There are three essential manuals. TC37F 1979. All the parts for your tractor. GSS 1411 Blue Ribbon service manual Factory shop manual. Owner's manual. Pick one that comes close to the year of your tractor for slight differences are captured by the manuals year-by-year. This is the important one for lubrication points. More than one fan hub has been ruined by lack of awareness of this lube point. This should be a cover-to- cover read.
You can download all of these in complete pdf form in (new) manuals or find individual pages in jpegs in Rudi's manual server. Every Cub owner should have these three at a minimum.

Just to add to the earlier replies - don't try to fill it while reassembling. Get it back together first, then fill as described in the manuals.

Re: Oil in fan housing
Here is a picture of the fan assembly from the GSS-1016 blue Ribbon manual. Note the oil scoop (curly Q between the hub and the gasket), it is reversed in this picture, if you install it this way the fan will fail soon. It does not turn when in operation, the outer shell with the oil spins around it.

I corrected quite a few of these pages with embedded notes in the parts books, but not the GSS manuals. I am not sure when the individual pages with the notes will be uploaded if they have not been changed already. Looks like I have a few more to go through. This is why I always recommend the TC37F 1979 parts book as a reference as it is complete and in this case, correct.

Re: Oil in fan housing
It is good that you have corrected many of them, but I always mention it due to the fact that many people have manuals on hand that are incorrect, and many on the market are wrong also.

Re: Oil in fan housing
Was scratching my head and trying to figure out what was going on untill I noticed the "1979" Didn't realize there was such a big difference in the 1979 version of the TC-37F (Which is revision 6 I believe?) and the TC-37F Revision 4 dated Dec 75 that I have. Group 12 page 5 is a manifold and underslung exhaust on mine. Revision 4 is a "partial revision" of revision 3 from Mar 75 which was a "complete revision". It always annoyed me that there are no engine parts listed in mine, I guess IH fixed that by revision 6. Was there a revision 5?bob in CT wrote: This is why I always recommend the TC37F 1979 parts book as a reference as it is complete and in this case, correct.
