Gardens

Postby Mr Joshua » Fri Jun 07, 2013 10:56 am

How is everyone's gardens doing with all this rain?

Ours is doing ok. seemed better last year. The corn i believe has gotten too much rain and is not liking it. We planted 77 tomato plants this year. Lat night i was looking to see how things were going and so far have found about 10 tomatoes growing. the biggest was about golf ball size. The plants are staying relatively short. the tallest is only about 2 feet tall. potatoes seem to be doing well considering the amount of rain, but i'm afraid they may be rotting under ground. The pumpkins, watermelon, and cucumber are staying small but it is still a little early. As for strawberries, off our little 4 x 4 patch we have picked well over 200. makes for a great snack. Pepper plants are still staying small. Not sure how they are going to do this year.
I'm just curious how everyone else's is doing this year.

We're a couple weeks behind you but things seem to be doing ok except the potatoes which are spotty. I don't plant many and could live without them but Jeanne wants them and wants pontiacs so I grow them. Early corn is up, planted third planting yesterday. Since I have a greenhouse I use mostly plants so melons, squash, cukes, pumpkins and sweet potatoes are all "up" and growing. Beans are looking real good which suprises me since we have been below normal temps for a week or so. All in all looking good. We could use a nice rain. Been going 60 miles north. Vern

Garden is looking good. Almost sank, this morning, checking it, though. 5 1/2 inches of rain, from the storm! Ed

Here things are doing well....We've just started picking cherries today...(We have only six trees,so we do it ourselves)....I had 30 tomatoes which I didn't think were going to make it so I planted 30 more...Now I've got 60 doing well  ...Corn will be knee high by the 4th...4 beds of 50 strawberry plants (everbearing) coming on like gangbusters....All in all things are really coming on well (Beans, pea's,squash, cucumbers, kohlrabi, beets, chard, spinach ,radishes, cauliflower, cabbage....Much better than last year.....So far.....Peppers not so good, hoping they'll pick up..... Dave
