Decided to register today and take the Circle of Safety test. I passed on the third try.

Looking to buy a cub or an A with a mower to cut my 4 acres of grass. Been reading up on the differences in models and really to waiting for one in my extremely tight budget to appear.

Welcome aboard kato. I don't know what is available out there in Kansas but both are great tractors. Four acres is a lot of mowing. As much as I love my Cub, if given a choice, I'd get the A. I have some experience with the Farmall A and it is a great tractor with many benefits over the Cub. It has an overhead valve engine, a four speed transmission and a 540 rpm pto that you can use with "normal" pto driven implements. I'm not sure, and others will be along to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it has a wet sleeve motor which means it's cheaper and easier to rebuild if needed.
However, if a Cub comes along at a bargain price you still get a lot for your money. In my opinion comparing the two, the A has a lot more going for it than the Cub.

Well, I am partial to Cubs but A's are nice as well although they generally do not have hydraulics. I would recommend a Super A versus the A but it might be overkill.

Welcome to the forum from Arkansas. Sounds like muleboss can get you started and while there you can judge all the differences. Try out a cub, then an A. See the difference's. Good luck.

I'd encourage you to take muleboss up on his offer. You can get some hands-on experience and see which one you like better (or think will do a better job). It's over now, but would also encourage you to remember the Cubfests next Spring. One is Dewey, OK and one at muleboss' place near Burlington, KS.

[Super A]

A stock Super A and a stock A pretty much perform the same HP wise, but the Super A will have touch control 99.9% of the time. Even just running a mower, it is nice to be able to raise and lower the deck hydraulically. I would hold out for a Super A over an A.

Thanks for the welcome. I don't have my heart set any particular model so I am pretty open. I do like the styling of the Super A. Mowing will be the main duty then pulling trailers. The garden tractors are just not big enough.

Looked at the Cubfests and saw that I missed the Dewey, OK one. That would have been close for me.

Muleboss, I may need to come out to Burlington and check out some tractors. Not sure how far a drive it is.
