Re: 154 Question
Sounds like the despeeder/creeper gear. My creeper control knob is located next to the left calf when seated.
To find out. Tractor running, transmission in gear, clutch depressed, pull knob out, release clutch.
The creeper is actually a separate unit mounted in front of the transmission.

I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: 154 Question
It basically work like 4 Low in a transfer case in a 4x4 truck, giving you a reduction gear with 3 slower forward gears and one slower reverse gear when it's engaged.
If you only have a mower, you likely will not use it much if ever. The only situation with a mower is if you get into really tall grass, and need a ground speed slower than the typical 1st gear, in order to slow down the travel speed of the tractor to let the mower still run at full RPMs and chew through the tall grass.
It is an absolutely essential part however if you have a snow blower or roto tiller. Again, the purpose is to give you three lower gears than standard 1st gear. With a snow blower or tiller, you've got to keep the engine RPMs up at full throttle to run the device properly, but you need a slow ground speed to let the device work (chewing through snow or tilling soil).
It can be handy if you need to move something heavy, as you can just let the clutch out without slipping it, for instance pulling a boat.

Re: 154 Question
You have 6 very handy gears/speeds forward. Tiller or snow blower would be nice and work great. Mowing tall, heavy, tough grass.
Edit: I'm a bit late - or just not fast enough with a reply.

Just add about 1000 bucks to the price of your tractor when you want to sell it.
