The young do not have exclusie rights to stupidity

Postby John *.?-!.* cub owner » Mon May 06, 2013 8:36 pm

Us old geezers use it sometimes too. I have a neighbor whose basset barks at me when I go past either walking or on my handicap scooter until I give her a treat. If I am on the scooter she also expects me to play chase around the yard, and sometimes runs into places I cannot go, then runs back and forth trying to get me to follow her there. She had run under the metal carport and out the end and up a bank then stopped waiting for me. When I backed out of the carport I was not watching closely enough and the right rear wheel (13 inch wheels) climbed the block the corner of the carport was on and right up the post. I went over fast and hard landing on the hip that was replaced about a year or so ago. It hurt so bad it took a little bit before I could drag myself from under the scooter. My scooter weighs 300 pounds, and it took me and the neighbor both to set it back up. Hip is not bothering me now, but leg just below it is giving me fits. I am wondering if I will be able to walk tomorrow.

John,

I'm glad you are alright. Couldn't help but chuckle a bit.

I hope you get to feeling better soon. I will wait until you see the humor in it before I chuckle. :)
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

John,

I do feel your pain. I fell on the ice this past winter and I swore that the two pins and eight screws in my back all loosened up. It, also, was indeed painful for a while.

you need to be more careful when you get playful John. Hopefully you will be able to laugh it soon.

Sorry to hear about your accident, glad you are OK or some what OK. I turned my chair over in the dark not long ago but did not get hurt. Maybe we need a safety course at the BASH

Hope you feel better John. Sounds like we could use a circle of safety for scooters. I've never used one but I can understand how easy they would be to flip. Grump

Still pretty sore but doing better. I went to emergency room today worrying I had damaged artificial hip, but they said no, just strained muscles so far as they could tell. Using a wlaker to get around today, but pain is lessening as day passes. Maybe I will be able to chuckle about it in a day or two.

John:

Glad you are ok.... and nothing serious happened.

Em and I are learning scooter/power wheel chair safety. You know, one takes a lot of things for granted .. but when faced with life changes it becomes clear how difficult it can be to get around or to help those in chairs/scooters get around. We are learning and it isn't easy...... :(

Again, glad you didn't get to badly hurt and are progressing well.

Considering the way my leg is weak, and only hurts when I put weight on it, with nothing being sore or tender I am suspecting that when I hit I may have caused a bruise in the tissue next to the prosthesis and it has swelled a little putting pressure on the sciatic nerve that goes past it. The good part is that I have manged to move from a walker to a cane to get around.

Glad you are on the mend John, it could have had a more serious outcome.
