Cubs got a big brother and an ole grandad

Been getting the Cubs to run, will select some to refurbish or restore.
Brother met up with a person, discussed tractors and other collectables. The person stated he had a one row Farmall 100 he wanted to sell, stated he was selling it for scrap iron.
I sent him back [ with some money] and this is what he came back with.

The ole grandad is in the background, one cub peeking out of the barn

nice tractor! That looks to be a '58-'62 (or early '63) Farmall 140. Unless of course someone had changed the sheetmetal and it is a 100 underneath. I've got a couple like that one. It also looks like it has the Fast Hitch, which can be worth the price paid alone. Nice tractor.

I think it is an early 140, the scrap iron man only knew of IH making the A, super A and 100. I got it just before he started cutting and breaking to haul to the scrap yard. It has wheel weights on all four wheels, three tires hold air good, the cultivator is almost complete { no feet or scratchers ].
The real bad thing is the drain petcock on side of engine is pooched out from freezing, but the motor is loose, [ hope it is not too loose ]. The seller stated that the original owner never left it outside, and it unexpectly froze in the barn, then set for some 15 years. Of course that is a common patented statement, I have the air cleaner off of an A john Deere that "ran " when parked and had just been serviced. The air cleaner was almost completely full of muddy oil and just enough oil to keep it damp.

Look for a crack or cracks in the block just behind the carburetor. That is where those motors were prone to external cracks. It'd probably be a good idea to have the head reworked as I'm sure there is a stuck valve or 2......although you could unstick them and see how it runs first, then go from there. Most of the time we'll pull the head and pay the $200 for a head job. For the price, it Makes a world of difference on how much better they run!!! It'll also let you see if there are any internal cracks on the block. Which plug are you talking about that is "pooching out" ? Try and upload some more good pictures of the tractor....especially of the areas of concern like you had just mentioned. Maybe it didn't bust or crack and a freeze plug or two just popped out.

Yeah, the wheel weights...fast hitch....cultivators (what is there); are worth more than what you gave for it (presumably you gave scrap price).

Put a battery on the 140, jumped straight from positive to the starter, plesantly pleased when the engine spun.

Now have spark to the plugs, but the fuel bowl and carburator has issues. Do not want to really start it until the tank is completely cleaned of old fuel, and leaks stopped.
Hope I got a lucky break getting a runnable ugly tractor, that I can tinker with, along with the cubs and F 12.

Well the 140 has a new home. Local trade for two cubs with belly mowers each, front part of cultivator and grader blade. I have found the little ones are easier to work on.
