We used to grow it but NOT since I do sweet corn in the yard here!---cheaper to buy a 50 cent bag at the grocery store than to contaminate my sweet corn! thanks; sonny

Actually, kinda! We took a golf cart ride back in the field to check it out, 2 days after the fire. Corn was still popping, I guess it was still pretty hot down in there, the ground around it was white with popped corn. It was a sad sight but funny at the same time. I'm sure he had good insurance.

Re: Anybody Ever Planted PopCorn?
If you read some of the other sites like YTMAG, etc. there are a lot of reports of JD combines burning. I do not know if they are noticeable because there are a lot more of them, or if they have a problem.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

I agree with Eugene's reply 100%.... I tried some when I was a kid, but the soil doesn't warm up until June something here in N.Y. So the pop-corn I planted never matured..

Re: Anybody Ever Planted PopCorn?
We raised it when I was little. Grandpa even had a little hand held antique seller. Like they are all saying, isolation and moisture at harvest is very important. One year we let it get too dry, and it would not pop. The moisture inside the kernel is what makes it pop when heated. My Neighbor put his in the freezer when the moisture was ideal. A different neighbors grew it production years back. My grandpa modified the snapping rollers on his mounted picker so that it would close enough to even get the popcorn nubbins. Many seed companies have seed.

Not this year....I planted it last year, but it was so hot it popped in the field and my mule thought it was snow and froze to death.....
