Best wishes on the new job. Family is very important.
Spent 20 years in the military and missed many family activities, specially a lot of the kids growing up. Then took a job teaching at high school level, 336 miles from home, because is was the only decent paying job I could find. Spent 3 years visiting the family on weekends. I missed out on a lot.

Re: Starting over
I understand that starting over thing. I worked for a company over 23 years and got laid off just prior to them closing their doors forever. That was just over a year and half ago. I was able to find another job in the same field within a couple of days but working on my feet all day long just wasn't cutting it anymore. I'm sure being old and fat had nothing to do with it. In October I got a Class A CDL license and planned on driving for the remainder of my career by the end of April. A couple of weeks ago they offered me a position as Buyer which puts me at a desk and more importantly, off my feet. I have accepted that position and started this past Monday. I must say, I'm better with a hammer than a computer but I am picking it up.
I think you've made a great decision and will greatly appreciate it. I know your family will. Best of luck and keep us posted on how it's going.
