Plow making strange noise
I plowed a neighbors garden with the 151 rear mount disk plow this morning, and as I was getting close to finished I started hearing a loud screeching noise intermittently coming from the plow. My first thoughts were I had wrapped a wire around the disk bearing, or a bearing that carries the disk plow blade was going bad. I have pretty bad arthritis in my back and neck, so getting turned around far enough to get a good look at it was difficult, and when I turned far enough to get a good look at the plow I nearly fell off the tractor laughing. A guinea was running alongside the plow screeching at it for all she was worth.

A great Saturday morning laugh - I'm guessing this is a type of bird that we don't have here in upstate, NY.

You made her mad! Guineas are the best watch dog you can have. Nothing will come up on your place that they won't warn you about. Besides, you can eat them and their eggs.

Better than chicken.
I grew up in Glenns falls, all the old farmers had a flock.
They also are an excellent forager and love bugs. Great for the garden and ticks and stuff.

Love ginueas for all the reasons listed, plus they are nearly a maintenance-free animal. The only problem is, they are always looking for new ways to die. Most involve motor vehicles in some way....

LOL, they do love the roadsides and will chase a car like a dog does.

For them it must be like a buffet with the ground being broken up.

Re: Plow making strange noise
I have been around guineas a good bit,but have never heard one making a noise like this. Nor sure if she was trying to chase the plow off, or if she was wanting to mate with it. Did I mention that guineas are not to bright?Billy Fussell wrote:You made her mad! Guineas are the best watch dog you can have. .....

Ken, I have seen them in Upstate NY. My neighbor had some and they are noisy. They would come to my yard looking for bugs.

Re: Plow making strange noise
I had free-range guineas for years around the house...anywhere from 4-8 at a time. Mine would follow the lawn mower and eat the bugs that would get stirred-up from the deck/blades. I told my wife if there ever came a time when there were none left, we would not have anymore. That time came a year ago this past March. I got tired of feeding the neighbor's dogs.

I can assure that tomorrow when I'm with my 93 year-old father at the farm - I'm gonna ask him about this. In the 214 year history he knows about her farm I've never heard him once mention this....Quite interesting....Thanks all---Ken
