Yes, There were apparently only about 100 ever built, and only a handful known to exist. Geezer (Bill DeTurck) on the IH Cub Cadet forum has one and I've seen it in action. If I remember correctly, it gives you all lower gears, so you have the 3 original speeds, then 6 speeds lower than standard 1st gear. I would imagine they were originally designed and installed with the Ground Saw attachment, a trencher that was built for the Cub Cadets. That's the only thing I can think of where that slow of a ground speed would be helpful.

Courious question, If I was to be able to buy it off the guy? Could it be outfitted to a cub? Not saying he would sell it, but if I could find another one like it?

Thanks

No, the drive on a cadet is different than a Cub, although the transmission appears the same. The Cub Cadet transmission has an input gear, which reverses the drive direction, and changes the input speed to the transmission, to accomodate for not having the final drives like on a Cub. So, the creeper drive on a Cadet bolts to the input gear housing, not directly to the transmission like the torque tube does on a Cub. Also, you would have to modify the torque tube, drive shaft, floor pan, brake linkages, lift rod to the rear lift, and a whole slew of other things on a Cub to accomodate for the creeper drive being inserted into the drive line. You either have to shorten the torque tube (not sure how you would do that since it's cast) or you have to lengthen out a bunch of other things if you don't shorten the torque tube. Regardless, I think it's a whole lot more work than you could imagine.

If you can buy it from the guy, the better application would be to install it into a Cadet!

The Cub Cadet with a M&W was a Original. I don't believe the M&W was made for any other model but for the Original Cub Cadet. Sorry to say, I doubt your friend would come off that extremely rare piece of history. But I wish you the very best of luck!

The M&W Gear Company of Gibson City, IL, made the gear reduction unit only for the Original as I already said. The speed ranges were: direct drive, under drive, and over drive. The tractor has 9 speeds forward at this point, and 3 speeds at reverse.

The Original was now up to a wopping 10.8 miles pre hour top speed! Your steering box and tir rod ends, and drag link were to be in top-notch mechanical condition. Also the tractor was now 4 inches longer. After the Original was no longer made, M&W did not make any other gear reductions for IHCC .

The M&W 9 Speed gear box was installed between the front frame and the gear reduction housing, only on the Original Cub Cadet as stated above. It added 2 inches to the length of the tractor. It is different, and could not be used with, the Danco UD6 creeper (direct drive and under drive) that was also available for the Original. If you can find one for sale, it is going to be rather pricey and require deep, deep, pockets, unless the seller does not know what he/she has, and parts are not available so make sure it is complete and in working order..
