IH/Danco C-3 rotary mower bearing removal
I have a IH/Danco C-3 60" rotary mower on my 48 Cub that I am putting new bearings in. I have the pulleys and the big nut and washers off the spindles and the spindles out of the deck. I haven't been able to get the spindles apart. I don't see a keeper. Do you have to press the shaft down out of the housing? I don't want to break the cast spindle housings. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks Marvin

Re: IH/Danco C-3 rotary mower bearing removal
Once you have the nut off, being careful with the special internal-tooth tab washer that costs $4 if you break the internal tooth off, the spindle should drop right down with some soft faced hammer persuasion. make sure the woodruff key is out of the shaft. That is the only thing I can think of to hang it up. In (New) manuals there is a pdf for RC1 rotary cutters and a section with all the parts including an exploded view of the spindle. If it is too big to download, send me a PM with your email address and I will cut out that section and email it to you.

BE SURE TO FILL THE SPINDLE FULL OF GREASE WHEN YOU REASSEMBLE
PUT IN NEW SEALS
TOP SEAL HOLDS GREASE IN AND DIRT OUT
BOTTOM SEAL HOLDS DIRT OUT BUT LETS GREASE OUT
ON FINAL ASSEMBLE YOU SHOULD HAVE .005 TO .007 PLAY IN BEARINGS
LAST THING TO DO IS PUMP GREASE IN SPINDLE TILL IT COMES OUT THE BOTTOM SEAL
BE CAREFUL WHICH WAY YOU PUT BOTTOM SEAL IN
