IH Wood Signs

Postby Brandon Webb » Thu Mar 21, 2013 9:54 pm

Long time IH dealer 40 miles from here retired had a big auction. People came from everywhere there were no bargains but we scored the wood letter signs. He had been open since the 1930's they were in great shape. My local dealer in town has a set just like them but his are black. These pics are before we cleaned them up.

Very neat!! I want one too some day for my shop. Did you get the Deering and IH with it too. Grandpa had all what you have and that. His brought $700 in 93, I was standing right there watching it all sell.

Never know what you'll find at an auction. I tend to always buy more than I should.

Cool stuff, thanks for sharing.

These are all they had. The auctioneer was going to split them up and sell them separately and I asked them to keep them together and they did thankfully. I have seen pics of other words like trucks. I'm unsure how many different ones they made or who exactly made them.

The set I have came from a dealer in Brattleboro,VT,auction in summer of '99. Mine were red letters,"McCormick" "and International",that's all there was.Small dealer with big cement block shop tied into the side of an old dairy barn.I was told that the dealer was given the usual "you need a new, modern building" ultimatum and that was the end of him selling IH. Think I paid $35 for both pieces, they now have shiny red paint and adorn my farmer's porch.

Nice score. I found a complete set at the summer show at Portland Indiana a few years mine came with the I-H sign also.
