someone was weld happy!

one of the previous owners of my cub seemed to be a little weld happy, the seat post is welded, battery and tool box were welded to the platform, and they welded the PTO pulley onto the shaft, i have now been able to get the pulley off and it fell to peices, my question is, since there is still a weld on the end of the shaft, i know a new pullley will not go on it, would i be able to attempt to grind the weld off? or be best to just replace the shaft all together? and would anyone happen to know of a good pulley for sale anywhere? thanks, Kile
 
Kile, It is hard to say whether or not you can sucessfully grind the weld off without a pic. If it is just tack welded it should be no problem to grind and dress up splines with a file.
You might want to list what you need in the classified section in the wanted ads.

The quickest way to post pics is as an attachment to your post.
Go to bottom of your screen "upload attachment";
"Browse" to the pic you want on your computer;
"Add the file";
Position your cursor where you want it in the post and click "Place inline"

"Preview" your post before submitting to see what it will look like.
 
Good job Dave, keep educating members on posting photos that way.
I posted several in the last couple days via that route.
Beats the heck out of the PhotoHost.

I feel your pain. The PO of my 49 was weld happy. Tried to weld the brake drums to their shafts when the keys sheared. I was able to save them but I have a tool and die shop. What I am getting at is give it a try. Take it easy with the grinder. You never know till you try. I have saved a bunch of stuff that others had given up on(with simple tools). To me it is part of the fun. Hey what have you got to lose?

You know, if replacing it's an option, you've really got nothing to lose by trying to clean it up.

I think it'll clean up just fine. I'd probably just do a hillbilly lathe routine. Start the PTO and let it run at idle, then grind away.
 
ok, i will try that, thanks! i figured the pictures out, and posted one of a loader i had gotten, but it wasnt with my camera, and the ones that i try to post with my camera, say there to big of a file, so ill use another camera and post some when i get a chance, thanks for you guys help!

They will help you resize the pics to the size mandated by either the PhotoHost of by the upload file limits. Hopefully the above articles will help you post pics of your Cub.
