My New Project 1958 Lo-Boy w/ IH 1000 Loader

Postby vwfoolwhy » Thu Feb 21, 2013 12:28 pm

I had been looking for an older smaller tractor with a loader for some time and finally found one that would work for me.

I am now the proud owner of a 1958 IH Cub Lo-Bow with a IH 1000 Loader. The tractor was saved from the scrap yard. It's very complete and in good condition. It is a Barn Find so I will need to go through it before attempting to start.

I'll post pics soon.

Mike, Welcome to the Forum. Sounds like you have a nice combination there. Hopefully, it won't take too much effort to have the Cub running and the loader doing its job.

Sounds like a great project. You 1958 Cub lo-boy is actually a shortened version of the standard Cub.

The numbered Cub Lo-Boys series, 154, 184, & 185, started in 1968.

Welcome
I have an excuse. CRS.

Nice! That's a great combination! A Lo Boy is good because of a lower center of gravity, but you will still want additional weight on the back. In my opinion, that is the best looking year(s) for a Cub.

Pictures are always good...

I have an electronic (pdf) version of the 1000 manual if you want, send me a PM with your email address.

Enjoy your new treasure, there are a lot of folks going to be jealous!

Sounds like a good project! If you saved if from the scrap yard then odds are you just paid for either the tractor or the loader as the loaders are somewhat rare! Good find and will be looking for picturesb :D

Mike:

G'day and congrats :applause: to you on acquiring your very 1st new to you Cub :D And to score an IH 1000 loader with it is simply astounding

These two links will probably help you get acquainted with your Lo-Boy and the Loader - McCormick Farmall Cub and International Cub Lo-Boy Operator's Manual 10-1-59, yes it is a '59 manual, but it is essentially the same as the '58. IH 1000 Loader Manual. Hopefully these will be helpful to you.

Our community has a lot of resources available to our members, so please take the time to follow the links below and read up a little on what we have available to help maintain/repair our Cubs

Thanks every one. Although this is my first Farmall Cub I'm no stranger to Farmalls or tractors in general. I bought this beauty for $350.00. So putting some money into it is no problem.

Sweet! That's about the value of the fast hitch, free tractor and loader! Best deal I ever heard of!

Fast hitch adds decent rear weight on a Lo Boy and can be used for adding counter weight also. Patience and you will find weights and implements.

Someone really did a number on that hood. Hood and gas tank are supposed to be one piece.

Probably someone who looked at it and said, "Hey someone welded the hood and gas tank together! What a hack job!" LOL

Hoods are relatively easy to find though. For how you stole that tractor, a "new" hood is money well spent.
