Welcome aboard. Good to have a member from down under. I recently bought my first Cub off of E-Bay. In the past most of my leads have come from Craigslist. The E-Bay experience was mixed. I was close enough to ride my motorcycle down and inspect the tractor before bidding but didn't because I had dealt with the seller before and trusted him. His description was somewhat vague but the price was in the ball park of what I wanted to spend and figured I wouldn't get hurt, price wise. Anyway, long story short, I wouldn't do it again without going to inspect the tractor first. So for me, no more buying Cubs without looking them over first.

G'day,

All of the above. Given your Australian location, buying a Cub becomes a bit more complicated. Your best approach is to find a mate that has some experience with Cubs and ask him to accompany you when you go look at a Cub. Take a good look at this http://www.farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=48032, before you go to look at a Cub. Good luck.

thamks for the replies.
Yes , my location is a problem in trying to buy a cub. Its a route I'll have to go if I want one , as there
are next to none down here. The few that do come up for sale are expensive as well.
I guess the best situation would be to buy one off a forum member. I've got a friend over here
who's job is importing Harleys. He will ship it over if I can get it to his warehouse in Cal.

Is there a price guide anywhere for cubs ? I look at ebay quiet often , but there's such a range of prices it get confusing.

HI AGAIN! Good to hear from you..it's been a while. Unfortunately, the US West Coast is not the best place for cubs either. What you can do is go to Craigslist for specific areas of the country to get an idea of availability and price for cubs in those areas. Be aware that you get varied results depending on what you put in the SEARCH window, eg Farmall Cub, Farmall Cub Tractor, Cub Tractor, Farmall, Tractor...etc, etc. Even adding an "s" can change things! If I had to pick ONE area of the US to target for the purchase of a Cub, I would pick Ohio and neighboring states like Tennessee. The bad part is, then you still have to get it to California, and that is not cheap. Hey, you might get lucky and find one in California...they DO have a lot of agriculture there...

I bet you could fit at least two cubs in a container, ship them over and sell the second (or 3rd, or 4th!!) one to defray the cost of all that shipping. Don't forget to get some spare parts while you are in the US, though...probably a LOT cheaper than trying to get them "at home"!

Good luck, and see you in Australia sometime...I'll be in Camden, NSW, in May 2014 if not sooner.

Send me the $$ for the Cub and a UHaul, and this US gang will find you a Cub, I'll drag it to CA and send it on its way!!! But you REALLY need to get a few of them...at least one to own, maybe two (since they are addictive), one for parts, and one to sell to help with costs (and to have someone else to work on them with!!) :big smile:

I can hide 1 from my wife , anymore would be risking things. ha
Seriously , when I come to buy one , I need to get one thats in good shape.
I haven't got the time or space to start rebuilding stuff. I need one that's all there and ready to go.
That makes the search even harder to start with.
Any clues on what that sort of cub is gonna cost me ?

Do you want to farm/garden with it or are you just planning on playing with and showing it? In other words, in addition to wanting a complete and good running one, do you want a PURDY one (~$3000) or one in "work clothes" (~$2000)??!!

I'll keep an eye out! PURDY it is!! I'm sure some of the other folks will have suggestions, too. It is really neat with the internet to be able to check for things anywhere in the world, eh?!!

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.
