I actually got some time this past weekend to work on my last purchase.
The prior owner had this as static yard art for a number of years sitting out in the elements. Moss and all.
He made an attempt was made to get it going but that didn't last.
When I went to see it I hand cranked it and got it to fire for about one brief second.
That was all I needed to know there was hope.
It was set wide and the steering rods and tubes were as bent as a 66 year old tractor would be. I expected it to be frozen and to be a major headache. Fortunately I was wrong.
The tubes came apart and using a soft stump as an anvil I coaxed it straight again without buggering them up.
Sanding the rust and paint off the rods while using a 12 gauge shotgun barrel brush to clean the inside of the tubes made it all go back together hassle free. (don't laugh, it worked )
The rear wheels having cast weighted centers were stuck on the hubs and dealing with them has my back feeling it today but they are set narrower now making storage inside easier.
I was shocked that I was able to get that done as quick as I did and hadn't planed to get a crack at getting it running but I had another weekend day left.
Ok then. The after market fuel filter and original sediment bowl was packed with orange rust. I replaced the sediment bowl with a new one I had for my cub. I pulled the plugs on the carb and gave a spray.
Pulling the rod and it fired,...for about 2 seconds. Nope, not that lucky.
The carb was pulled and I found that between the 2 halves was a white gasket (???) looked like silicon bathroom calk.
Wow, ok. Not having a replacement gasket I cheated and took the carb off my running A. Sorry.
It worked though as the tractor fired right over and ran like a champ!
The clutch was stuck at first so I shut it down and fired it again in first gear which freed the clutch up.
The trans sounds good and the foot throttle works pretty good.
The left brake is stuck and won't work but the right side stops it fine. I can fix that later.
Here is the old carb, kind of scary huh?
Its a certainty it won't work again without a rebuild kit and having checked I'm a bit concerned that I may buy the wrong part.
It would seem there are alot of diferent Zenith carbs.
I'm thinking this would work...am I right?

Mike, If the seller knows what he talking about, that sure matches your carb numbers. The only thing safer might be to check with a Case/IH dealer or Bermuda Ken.

Ken Updike works for Carter and Gruenwald. They are a Case/IH dealer and Forum sponsor. Ken has written several books on Cubs and is in the parts department there.

Ya i just went ahead and grabbed the kit from Ebay, probably over spent but it seemed to be complete with every part besides the carb body.
Napa can be pricey too but as the saying goes you pay for what you get. Never cussed at a part they sold. Probably should have gone to them. Got to give them credit too for supplying parts for 60-70 year old machinery.
Mike.
