Countershaft pinion bearing fit?

Ok I am plenty used to working with bearings and this dont seem right.

I can drop the race on for my pinion NU roller bearing! Did this not have a interference fit on it? Seems to me I should have to heat or press this race on. By my measurments this has .001" clearnece

Oh yeah to simplify the roller bearing on the countershaft is loose. Is this correct? If not I will have to get it knurled and turned.

I was just into the transmission on the '65 and it was a slip fit too. Manuals says that the shaft should be 1.1803/1.1808. If it's too small, I would use 680 loctite on it instead of trying to knurl it. Basic bearing ID is 30 mm, or 1.181....so it should be snug, not press.

I will try some loctite on your suggestion. kinda wish my 2" mic was vernier though.

Ditto on Loctite product. Use the bearing mount product.

Are you sure it's the right bearing? Usually I note what the bearings markings are, but can check the old one. If I recall it was a Bower.

Got to find some way to rebuild the mainshaft surface where the roller bearing sits as well. I ordered a new roller bearing but that thing is grooved way bad. I can have it welded and turned but I need to find somebody to nitride harden it or I will be looking for a different bearing to go in there.

This has been an intresting project-Bad engine, bad bolster, bad tranny bearings, Cracked differential carrier, leaky hydraulics. I got the final drives to do too then the hydraulic block to reseal and I am done.
I better mow for 20 years on nothing but tune ups and oil changes!

So do I turn down the surface where my PTO collar rides as well then? Almost have to or the bearing wont slip on. And how is this going to affect pto reliability?
Kinda late now but I will mic the shaft tomorrow and see if I am close enough without welding the shaft. If this is a simple spin job I can use my uncles lathe to get this done for FREE!

For the PTO, I may replace mine with a sealed bearing. Seems it would simplify things. A bit of a penalty on the drag from the seals, but should last forever. SKF 6205-2RS.

The 6205 bearings from CNH are now from China, no markings at all on the bearing.

Best solution for the needle journal is hard chrome and grind.
Weld+stress relieve+grind+heat treat+grind is a whole lot harder to accomplish.
New/good used input shaft may be cheaper.

Wow - yours sounds worse than the one I bought for parts. Mine was abused, but at least not that much was actually broken, just maintained by a less than certified mechanic. It's now in rehab mowing grass.

it is not a pressed fit but should be good and snug. if it is a slip on fit then locktite bearing locker may work providing that it is not too loose.
