Alexander Park, Portsmouth VA

Postby Bus Driver » Wed Mar 23, 2011 9:10 am

I have been searching for a childhood friend who lived near us during WWII in Alexander Park, perhaps on Rapidan Street. My other efforts have been absolutely fruitless. If you know ANYONE who ever lived in that area, please let me know how to contact them. Even a little clue might help. Perhaps your grandparents were there. This friend is female and the last name may have changed due to marriage. She may be deceased. The family last name was Massey.

Interesting history of Alexander Park at this link.

If you haven't already tried, check the marriage license in the county court house

I like Mike's suggestion. But I live far from Portsmouth at this time and would have the hire someone to do the search. In addition, the residents of that area probably were more transient than most communities-- if you read at the link that is clear-- and it is very likely, but not for certain, that her family moved before she would have married. We left before the end of WWII. I note that additional people are looking at this post and hopefully someone will offer additional insight.

This is an old thread-- but I found her about two weeks ago! Found online the obituary of her Father who died in 2002. Tried to contact various of the listed surviving relatives and her brother-in-law gave me her phone number. Had a great conversation. I last saw her 68 years ago. Might take a notion to drive to her distant location soon.
When searching, keep varying the search terms you use by adding or dropping words or using synonyms. You might get lucky. And being persistent helps.
