What is my tractor model?

Postby Donstractor » Wed Oct 17, 2012 5:20 pm

Hi everyone,
I just joined a few minutes ago and I have a question about my tractor. I have a number taken off a plate I believe was on the right front of the tractor. The number is H4483799. Could somebody tell me something about this tractor? It is not located where I can get additional numbers at this time. Any help world be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

That number looks like it could be from the magneto.
Welcome to the site, there is a lot of knowledge and how to information here.

One thing you can do, since you can't post a picture of your own, is look at pictures of tractors and see if you can find one that looks similar.

http://images.google.com is a good place to start. Since you came here, you obviously think you might have a Farmall Cub. So go to google images and look up "farmall cub."

When comparing photos to your tractor you have to be VERY detail oriented. Just because it has an offset engine does not make it a Farmall Cub. People mistake Cubs with the Farmall A frequently, but a careful eye can notice obvious differences.

BTW, Cub is the model of the tractor, if it is indeed a Cub.

I think you read a number off the magneto, as an H4 is a version of magneto normally found on the Farmalls larger than a cub. Good chance you have an A, Super A, 100, 130, 140, etc.

If you DO have a cub, an H4 is NOT the correct magneto, and it should affect the performance in a negative way, as the spark advance is way off. Look for a serial number plate on the front bolster, near steering shaft, under radiator, or under the seat/on the seat frame......

My thanks to everyone who responded to my request. Since I posted the number I found out that I have a Farmall A. Now I will go in that direction for additional info.
Thanks again to everyone who responded.

Don:

This might be of some help: TC-26E Parts Catalog

. I don't have a lot on the A's at the moment, but that will change. Suggest that you visit Binder Books and they can supply you with quality reprints. Or if you prefer originals .. you can find them on :eBay:. I prefer originals, even if not perfect as the illustrations are much clearer.
