Fast Hitch
I have a farmall 140 listed in the ad section. If it don't sell I will be parting it out. I heard that the fast hitch on the 140 can be used on the super A but may need a helper spring? can someone post a photo of the helper spring to see if I have it on the 140.
Thanks, Kirk

Re: Fast Hitch
Normally the 140 would have a helper spring as well. It is right beside the battery box on the left side, one end connects to the Touch Control rockshaft arm.

Re: Fast Hitch
The super As that I have did not come with a helper spring. On the left side of tractor (sitting on the tractor) where the helper spring ataches to the rock shaft the loop on the rock shaft is too small on the three SA TC units that I have for a helper spring. I have also checked many SAs at shows to see if they have helper springs and I have not found one yet.
I will send a picture tonight of what I am talking about. I have a Fast hitch on my SA that came off a 140 and it fits just fine but I could not install the helper spring because of the rock shaft loop.

Re: Fast Hitch
You have to swap the TC arm for one from a 100-140. The Fast Hitch is shown as an attachment in the last edition (TC39C) of the Super A parts book and I believe that it calls out the new arm for the TC so you can hook the spring up. I am not sure but I bet it became the replacement part for all TC equipped tractors then---my FIL has a Super A with an arm that will accomidate a helper spring but no Fast Hitch.

Yes I am aware that you can change the arm on then TC and make the spring work on a SA however you don't really need the spring and that is the only different that I know of between a SA fast hitch and a 100 or 140 fast hitch.
I just took some pictures on the helper spring but I can't find my cable to my camera so I can't up load the pictures now

Re: Fast Hitch
Here is a photo of the spring on the 140.
I also noticed in some photos of 140's on the other side of the tractor there is a rod that goes up to the rock shaft. I don't have it on the 140. Do you need it for the SA? I have seen other photos of FH for sale and they have what I have.

Re: Fast Hitch
That rod regulates plowing depth.
If it wouldn't be too much trouble, could you get in there and take a pic of the helper spring attachment by the battery box/fender? I have a spring for my Super A and want to make sure I get it attached correctly.
thanks,
Al

Re: Fast Hitch
kind of hard to see from the photo but it looks like it's bolted to the tube and then goes into a hole on the housing near the front of the trans. I hope this helps. In the second shot there is a wire clip so you can't see it clearly.

Re: Fast Hitch
I took the spring off yesterday. Will the super A have the piece on the rockshaft needed to hook up the spring or will I need to take that off as well.
I seen a super A industrial at a show yesterday and it had that piece.

Re: Fast Hitch
If the arm was replaced at some point, the Super A will have the spot to attach the spring. The original Super A rockshaft arm didn't have a place to attach the spring so in most cases, someone installing a Fast Hitch will need the rockshaft arm as well.

Re: Fast Hitch
Thanks for getting back to me Al. Can I remove that with a gear puller? Since this is the inside one once removed will it need a spacer before pulling the outer piece back on?

Re: Fast Hitch
you will need to take the whole thing off the T/C, it is on the inside arm not the outside arm

After taking off the inside arm would you than need a spacer when reinstalling the outside arm?

Not sure but I think so. The shaft is tapered IIRC. I have taken one arm off before and it was the right side. One tap and it came right off.
