I don't think the '42 had that foot lever. I think all it had was a rod that slid through a hole at the bottom of the steering wheel support post.

So far as I know, the H only came from the factory with 2 options on the starter switch. Original was mounted on the tank bracket and required reaching around the steering post with your toe to operate it, which was a pain in the a$$ as well as the knee, ankle, etc. There were a few aftermarket options to improve them with such as a lever, or such as ours with the little bracket and curved rod to make it easier to reach. I will get some pictures later today. Later models came with a bracket that mounted the starter switch on the left side of the steering column at a level it could be easily reached with your hand.

Here is the setup on our H. I do not know where it came from, since it was already on it when I was big enough to remember. About the only thing other than this I can remember was some had what amounted to a piece of pipe or a tube with a bolt or rod through it that was bolted to the rear of the support the same as this one is.

I was a little hesitant to post this picture on here, but did not know any other way to show the push rod for the starter switch.
