So on my wish list is a Farmall 184 Fast Hitch Planter. I'm not ready to make the purchase yet but I search the internet to see when and where they pop up every week. Usually they are pretty far from me. I stumbled upon the Cole Planet Jr B91-92B and there is a tool bar mount application. I thought that was pretty cool then I clicked on "more info". A fast hitch popped up (B46-672A One-point hitch to mount 12-MX to International). I thought that was even cooler. Potentially like buying a new fast hitch one row planter without having to worry about having to find parts for it. Then I realized that the fast hitch was only for the bigger model 12MX which is more than double the money. Does anyone have any experience with this? It looks like it would be easy to custom the fast hitch to the planet jr but has anyone tried it? Am I better off going this route or should I wait and buy a 184? Is the new cole planter going to be easier in terms of maintenance and finding parts? Is the old farmall 184 going to be a headache in terms of maintenance and finding plates, etc? Just curious what someone else with experience may think because I have don't have experience here.
Thanks,
Johnny

Re: Cole Planet Jr B91-92B & fast hitch vs farmall 184 fast
I have both the Planet Jr. and the 12. If I could have only 1, it would be the 12.
The Planet Jr. is a drill that sows small seed in a close spaced row. great for lettuce beets, and seed up to the size of peas.
The 12 can use plates to sow seeds from beets to pumpkin and everything in between.
They are high new, but there are plenty of used out there.
My Cub doesn't have a fast hitch, but a fast hich 12 would be great in planting season.

Thanks Mike, That was the feedback I was hoping for and I learned something. Would you say the Jr is a bad candidate for planting corn?

the 184 is a very good planter but very pricey, the Cole is the best buy for the money

Yes, the most seed spacing you may be able to get with the Planet Jr. would be about 4". With seed corn at $5 a pound, thinning that many plants is a waste.
The 12 will hill-drop your seed 6' apart if you want.
Best,
Mike
