Re: Gator Blades
I use Gator blades on my Cub Cadet and all my Woods 59 mowers. I like them, a lot. Get them from my Woods dealer. Can't speak knowledgeably about the uses of high suction or medium suction blades.

Re: Gator Blades
I swear by them. I use them on my Hustler and on my Woods mower.
I get mine from my local guy and they are a lot less expensive. They come in 3 grades, and I use the extended life blades. Sometimes I get upwards of 30 hours out of a set on my zero turn.

I swear by them, too. Tim, is that 30 hours total life or between sharpenings?

Denny,
I normally do not sharpen them. That would be total life. That is on my Hustler. I do sharpen my Woods blades and I have a set on there now that is 2 years old.

Wow, I usually mow nearly 100 hours per season. I sharpen them at the beginning of each season and get 3 seasons out of them. That's if I don't hit any rocks, etc. and mangle the edges.

Re: Gator Blades
Denny, do you have the sand up there in your area that eats the blades up, even if you don't hit any rocks? Where I'm from in NE Florida, if you don't have a perfect manicured "carpet" of a lawn, the sand will tear the blades up fast.

Re: Gator Blades
I have never gotten over 30-35 hours out of a set of blades. The fins will wear off the Gator blades and they are not any good after that. The regular blades will not last as long as the Gator blades.
I keep 4 acres of grass cut with my zero turn and I can cut it in about 2 hours and I figure I am cutting the whole lawn somewhere around 15 times before the blades are worn out.
They will have cut somewhere around 60 acres of grass in 30-35 hours when they are finished. I pay between $30 and $35 for a set of the extended life Gator blades.
My yard is 95% thick centipede.
That is all I can get.
Now my Woods mower is a different story. I have owned it for 3 years and changed the blades once, when I got it.

No, just plain ole clay soil (mixed with rocks), typical west central Ohio dirt. Turf type tall fescue grass.
Tim, a set of 3 blades run around $80-$85. Without sand, the fins don't even wear off.
