New Farmall
Going to pickup a Farmall A with 42" mower. Found it at the fair with a "Make an Offer" sign on it and asked the owner what his lowest price was. The mower does not look like a woods 42. A lot heaver. No name tag or plate could be found on the mower. Owner said the tractor was a "39". I'll know more when I get it home. I'm sure a lot of questions will follow when I get her home.

Re: New Farmall
Sounds good, but as always, we want pictures. Being a 39 A it will not have hydraulics or a place for them. Does it have the exhaust lift, or a hand lift. Inquiring minds want to know.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Re: New Farmall
Being a '39 it won't have a starter or a place for one either, unless it has been converted. Also the serial number tag will probably be on the pedal guard.

Re: New Farmall
PO jury rigged a power steering pump for hyd. and uses a cylinder to lift the mower deck up and down. I think I may change things when I get her home. Can't wait. Will take pic. when I get a chance but no laughing please. Sure is in rough condition. Was looking for a project for this winter and I think I found it. Can you say "Money Pit"

Re: New Farmall
Hi all:
The NTM Farmall A is home at last. The serial No. is in the 1600's. Would that make it a 40 and not a 39? Also has electric start(12v), Mag converted to coil, and a host of other issues that may need attention in the future. Oil pan is pushed up like someone hit a stump or rock backing up. Motor sounds good with good oil pressure and the only oil leak I can find is at the base of the oil filter. The 42" mower has a name plate stamped Brush Hog and looks in fair shape. I did find a oil leak at the left final that looks like it is coming from the final/tube joint. Going out to take pict. before it gets to dark. Waite till you see what the po used to protect the air inlet!
P.S. Looks like the RIGHT final not the left. To many senior moments lately.

If the serial number is in the 1600's it is a 39.

Re: New Farmall
Tried the belly mower out today. All went well until the belt slipped of the driven pulley. Put it back on and it ran for a short time and came off again. I think the drive belt is too short as the return Idler is higher than the driven pulley and the belt looks like its being pulled up out of the pulley. Any thoughts or suggestions would help. I don't want to buy a new belt and find out I was wrong.

Re: New Farmall
In the past with my mowers if the belt jumps off 1 time, it is just getting started. I would plan on replacing the belt. Hopefully everything is lined up correctly.
That is not a bad looking tractor. I like it. I have several that look a lot worse. Good find.

Re: New Farmall
Thanks for the reply. I guess I"ll just bite the bullet and see if I can find a new belt locally. I really need to cut the grass at camp and the JD that I use with a sickle bar mower is tied up with the back hoe mounted for stump pulling. Really was pleased with the performance of the belly mower in the yard.

Re: New Farmall
I think I found the problem with the mower. The deck "floats" when it hits an obstacle(bump in the way) and pivots up and down which places the pulley out of alignment and pulls the belt off. All that is required is to lock down the pivot points once it is lined up. The deck can still float up but will stay parallel to the tractor. I hope this works as a simple fix.
