Our trip to FremontToday we traveled to Fremont for calling hours for George. I had along with me the name tag that designated George as the recipient of the Willer Award in 2009. I was remiss in my duty because I did not get this to George before his passing.
I showed the tag to George’s son Joel and explained what it was. Joel was present when we gave the first award to George at the re-hab center. We gave the tag to Marilyn and she sort of grinned and asked if it would be OK to go ahead and pin the tag on George. George was dressed in one of his favorite plaid flannel shirts, blue jeans and red suspenders. Marilyn pinned the tag on and it just looked natural. The model of the tricycle cub was displayed along with some of George’s other tractor memorabilia. There was a slide show playing on a monitor which was a video presentation of several pictures of George and his family. Many of the pictures were George at either his CubFest or at the Cub Tug. I spoke with some of George’s caregivers who told me that George visited the forum daily and that even though he was not up to typing a reply very often he read the posts faithfully. You should also know that Marilyn and the boys have read your messages and are really appreciative of your care and concern. Bigdog

Re: Our trip to FremontThanks Darrell, I'm sure George looked down and smiled.
I don't believe in taking the bull by the horns. I took a goat by the horns once and that was enough excitement for me.

Re: Our trip to FremontWe attended the evening calling and the service today. SteveB & I were asked to be pall bearers, for which we were honored to do. Darrell, the name tag looked great on George, thanks for doing that! Some of the comments posted, here on the forum, were read during the service. Thanks everyone, for the kind & thoughtful comments, it was a very nice addition to the service to hear a few of them. I was a bit surprised to hear that Marilyn and the boys were following the posts here, they were very proud that George has touched so many lives in so many positive ways. It was a very nice service, but it was difficult to say goodbye to such a special friend. He'll be missed by many!
Re: Our trip to FremontGary your comments have brought tears to me. I didn't know the General as well as others, but his well being to this site & ATIS,/ other stuff he did will be missed. Your speech at the Bash was well deserved.
Be SAFE. In my line of work
