planted corn
Got brave, and planted a couple of rows of early sweet corn. 80 degrees, today. Far from the normal of 55. I'll gamble a cup of seed, for an earlier crop! Ed
(Contrary to popular opinion, most of my sizeable tummy is caused by sweet corn, not DONUTS!)

I planted Spring Snow, from Harris seeds. I prefer white sweet corn. Not the tastiest, but the better varieties, all want warmer soil, for germination. Picked, while the water is heating, its still better than "picked at sun up" farm stand corn. Ed

Re: planted corn
I planted some open pollinated bicolor Saturday, along with a few hills of cukes squash and beans. Hopefully the corn will do better this year it came in too late last year, not enough moisture for the ears to fill out well.

Really early, for cukes, squash and beans, Carl. All are very frost sensitive. Good luck! Ed

Re: planted corn
I just put a few hills of each, betting on no frost but easy enough to tillunder and replant. I planted May 2 last year, asparagus has been up for 2 weeks picked a few times already. I am on a nice south slope and about a week earlier than most in town.

Corn is just starting to peek out of the ground, and we have 3 nights of frost warnings! Ed

Re: planted corn
Wish I had room for corn, I do like good sweet corn. Guess I will be headed across the state line to fetch some
Been eating asparagus for more than a week now. Small bed is enough for me every 2 or 3 days till the end of June... mmm

Survived so far, Kevin. The "growth point" on corn is underground, early in its growth. The first leaf can get frosted, without harming the plant. Ed
