130 High Clearance

Hey All, Spotted a SA on the side of the road "For Sale" yesterday, did a U-turn to investigate. Found the fella behind his house; and another tractor that turned out to be a 130V under a tree partially covered. Forgot about the SA I stopped for, especially when he told me the price
I may be able to make a deal on this 130V tractor, but lack knowlege on this tractor, The owner said it is a rare model. What is this model worth in good working condition ? Any input will help with my decisions.

Yeah, people use the work "rare" very loosely when they want to sell something; however the 130 was the model that had the fewest number produced in the Super A, 100, 130, 140 family; therefore I would imagine the 130 high crop would be the hardest to find. Make sure the implements that come with it are indeed the high clearance implements and not some standard implments that he is selling with it. You'd want the cultivators to touch the ground!! Make sure the sheetmetal is really good on the tractor since it is extremely hard to come by in good condition. Its not as plentiful as finding a good Super A grille and hood. Also, if you'll do a quick search on the forum or internet; you'll see the differences between them and the standard 130. The 130 High Clearance was just like all of the other High Clearance models in that family. Taller Clearance, engine brace, square front axle, optional foot throttle, etc.

According to Guy Fay and Andy Kraushaar in the book "Original Farmall Hundred Series, 1954-1958" there were 570 130 high crops made, 470 were for domestic use, and only 61 of those were distillates.

AL Farm Boy is 100% correct, if there is a "rare" culti-vision tractor this is it. IF IT HAS A LEGIBLE SERIAL NUMBER TAG AND ISN'T BROKEN ALL TO PIECES YOU SHOULD GET IT!

Don't sweat the tin too much. The center section of the grille and the hood are available reproduction. Of course if the tin is good that puts you money ahead. Also it is good if all the emblems are there--two "FARMALL" two little "McCORMICK" and two "130" plus the IH hood emblem----I think these are also available aftermarket.

I sure do need me a copy of that book!! With as many Farmalls as ive got, I need to break down and buy a copy.

We went and looked at a regular Farmall 140 (later bodystyle I believe) that had the numbers matching and was a distillate. It came with 2 distillate tanks too, but one of them was nearly ruined I'd say. He had attempted to coat it with tank liner and it looked like he poured tar in it about 1 inch thick. It was all over the place. The guy didn't know anything about tractors and it had been all cobbled up from head to toe. He was asking $1,900 and the front shroud was barely even there. It was all beat up and half of it was missing. It was also missing the hood. It ran ok, but not great. We had to pass that one up, and I hated to. We really don't get picky at all with these old tractors because it all can be fixed, but that one was just not worth bringing back and having to search for sheet metal and fix the rest of it. It didn't have any equipment because he had hauled it off for scrap the week before........that was the biggest deal breaker I'd say. haha, I wanted to shake him when he told us that!

I have learned alot more than I did. I will document more about this tractor next week after I get a break, to get over to it. I will get some pics and will go over the tractor to confirm if it is a true 130v and everything he has for it. Will let everyone know how it works out.
Thought I was through buying Farmalls after the recent SA, and this jumps out at me. What was I thinking

a good 130 high clear complete and right in its work clothes shouls fetch at least here in the northeast mid atlantic area 3500.00 to 5000.00 If you have had any luck with let I would be intrested in knowing about it..
