Deluxe seat - Upholstery COMPLETED !!

Postby Winfield Dave » Sun Mar 04, 2012 9:27 am

Decided to redo the seat on my Lo-Boy...the one with the blue shag carpet on it.
Started taking it apart...first the shag carpet...underneath was a silver seat covering...
Under that was a little foam and springs.
:?: Is this the typical deluxe seat "guts"?...or did they use a seat from something else on this Cub?

My Super A had a deluxe seat on it (added in the '60s) and by the time I restored it, every bit of the uphoulstry was gone, leaving the springs as shown in your pictures.

What do the silver cushions that TM sells look like inside? The appearance is darn near close to what I remember as a little boy but wondered what was inside.

I looked at the TM seats when I was replacing my seat and it would have been about $150 to get the bottom and back they offer. I opted for the ones on ebay for $58.

The seat cushions from ebay look really good. The stitches and material looks to be of good quality but, there are no springs inside the seat cushin. It sits okay. If my big 250 lb butt had to sit on it for more than an hour or so it would not be very comfortable.

I am sure the ones from TM are top notch. Everything I have ever gotten for them has been. That's just my 2 cents.

I have bought the cheap ones and the more expensive ones, you get what you pay for, the cheapies fell apart and split all over in a year, the pricey one still looks find, and these tractors live in a barn, not outside, the cheapies do not have the springs, just foam

Wouldn't waste any time with the foam seats. Got a new compleat set (bottom, back, armrest) from TM. Will reupholster the old one for a spare.

Early Christmas present for me... :{_}:
Finally got the materials to reupholster the seat.
I surprised myself with how it turned out.

Nice job Dave. I have one that I plan to do sometime in the future. Did you tie the zig zag springs or leave them loose? I'm not sure whether it's needed on a cushion this small, but see it on upholstery "how to's". Image

Bob...I left mine loose....they weren't tied when I took it apart.
The springs were pretty sturdy...not much lateral movement with them.
Merry Christmas to you and Sue. :D

I would like to have a deluxe seat, they look comfy. The pan seat on my 59 has holes rusted through it. I have a small school bus seat out of a bus the neighbor scrapped I may try to bolt onto mine and see how it looks. It would be good for taking a passenger along too.
