Did IH put date codes on filters?

Postby Super A » Fri Dec 02, 2011 10:27 am

I changed the oil in my "new" Super A last night.

On top of the old filter is the part number and 67129.

Is 67129 a date code? If it is, I am interpreting it as 12-9-1967. Am I correct?

This filter is IH, abut it looks different from the old IH filters I remember. The ones I saw (I have an old one on my goodie shelf) is white paper with red IH's (the "I" is red/white stripes). This one is white with black IH's.

thanks,
Al

I have a NOS filter that has red IH's and it has the same 67129 on it.

I noticed the part # on mine begins with IH (IH 376373 R91). I always thought that was a Cub Cadet thing.
Does your part # begin with IH and did you check the one on your shelf?

Yep the one on my shelf is marked the same. IH and then the part number and 67129.

Oh well, so much for that idea.....I am thinking the black filter may be newer than the red/white.

When I bought my "M" the oil filter was the black and white IH filter, it fell slap apart trying to get off, Lord knows how long it ahd been there. Changed oil in the Cub for the first time right after I got it home and it had the red/white candy stripe IH on it, same part number. I drained it down and stuck it up on the shelf for safe keeping, it was in decent shape but I guess it had been in there for years as well.

I found out the black IH emblem filters were made from the late '70s through the merger. The red/white ones were pre-mid-70's. I guess the reason they stick out in my mind is we just had a big stock of them on the farm.

About 5 or 6 years I bought the below pictured Cub filter and box at a flea market for $2.00. The box alone, from a collectible standpoint, was worth at least that with even the inventory tag still attached. The gasket is also in the box, but per Al's comment on the age, it is at least 35-40 years old and so dried out and curled up like a pretzel. One Cub I brought home 3 or 4 years had a black/white filter in it. Don't know how long it had been in there.
